Hi:
With the explosion of globalization and technology, the varied paths of retirement lead to many roads. According to a Merrill Lynch survey, only ten percent of retirees want to sit around in a slow paced lifestyle. Sure, many may want to do that for a couple of months, but then it's off to the races.
Some see themselves as the New Radicals - freed from paid work that ties them, but still looking for work in areas of interest. It's work on their terms - when, how much and what. It's more about the intellectual persuits - starting new businesses or exploring interests in greater depth. It's about seeing a need and fulfiling it by focusing on philanthropic endeavours. It's about getting health back by going to the gym daily or exploring their city or town and the natural topography around it. It's about reestablishing relationships, maybe cultivating new ones, or establishing closer links with grandchildren. It's about looking at that lifetime goal list and actually doing what at one time might have seemed impossible. Now it is possible.
