Day 5: Thursday, January 29, 2015 Cape Town - Tour Begins
Your tour begins today in the beautiful harborside city of Cape Town • Architecture which fuses French, German and Dutch traditions sets the stage for a thrilling cultural journey. (B)

Day 6: Friday, January 30, 2015 Cape Town
Step aboard a cable car that whisks you to an altitude of more than 3,000 feet • Land atop Table Mountain* • Gaze out at Cape Town, Robben Island and Lion’s Head • Return to the city via Table Bay, passing through the Moorish Malay Quartre on a panoramic tour • Pause along the way at Milnerton Lighthouse • Spend the remainder of your afternoon at leisure • Discover charming Victoria and Alfred Waterfront, known for its shopping and entertainment venues • Be sure to stop by the local craft market for some hidden gems • This evening, savour a true African dining experience • Explore the traditional art of African drumming and experience a traditional African hand washing ceremony before sampling local delicacies. Day 7: Saturday, January 31, 2015 Cape Town
Marvel at the coastal scenery and pleasant towns that populate the Cape Peninsula • Travel out to Cape Point on the southwestern tip of Africa • Listen to the tales behind the numerous ship wrecks which attest to the treacherous nature of these waters • Come to know the Cape of Good Hope and take a tram to the top of the mountain • Enjoy a leisurely hike down • Next you are off to Boulder Beach to see the penguins who call it home • Later this evening, make some new South African friends during a home-hosted dinner • Sit down with a local family and learn about their daily life • Perhaps you’ll share stories from your own experiences. Day 8: Sunday, February 01, 2015 Cape Town - Hermanus
Travel along the coast to the charming seaside village of Hermanus • Enjoy a winery tour before your lunch and wine pairing • Relax with some leisure time at the hotel where you may choose to enjoy a spa treatment or simply kick back at the pool. (B, L)

Day 9: Monday, February 02, 2015 Hermanus Region
Spend a free day exploring Hermanus • Perhaps you’ll choose to test your mettle and opt for a thrilling great white shark experience. (B)

Day 10: Tuesday, February 03, 2015 Hermanus - Entabeni Conservancy
Fly to the city of Johannesburg • Upon arrival head to the Entabeni Conservancy • Gather for an evening game drive • Have your cameras ready as you search for the "Big Five" (lion, African elephant, Cape buffalo, leopard and rhino) • As the sun sets enjoy a traditional African sun downer • Get out of your 4x4 for a cocktail as the sun drops behind the mountains • Sample a local favourite – Wild Game Biltong – before continuing on • Keep your eyes peeled for the great cats preparing to hunt • Return to the lodge for dinner under the stars. Day 11: Wednesday, February 04, 2015 Entabeni Conservancy
Rise before the sun and set out on a game drive • Enjoy coffee and tea in the bush before returning to the lodge for breakfast • Later, learn to follow the clues left by wildlife during a track identification walk with a ranger • After you have worked up an appetite, take time for a leisurely lunch in the gardens • Following dinner, continue your quest for the Big Five during another exciting game drive. Day 12: Thursday, February 05, 2015 Entabeni Conservancy - Johannesburg
Carry on your quest for the "Big Five" before breakfast • Later, travel to the vibrant city of Johannesburg • Along the way, your tour manager helps you discover the history of the local languages • A guided tour of Soweto - South West Township - showcases luxurious mansions and informal settlements. Day 13: Friday, February 06, 2015 Johannesburg - Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe
Fly to Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe** • Visit a local village to learn more about the regional culture • Embark upon a walking tour of stunning Victoria Falls • Tonight, be greeted in Shona and Ndebele, the local languages, as you enjoy a BOMA dinner • Partake in a hand washing ceremony, followed by a sampling of traditional beer and snacks, as a prelude to dinner • Delight in a wide selection that includes game meat such as kudu, crocodile, ostrich and wart hog • Try a few Zimbabwean dishes • Traditional dancers, the Sangoma (story teller) and a local witch doctor complete the experience. Day 14: Saturday, February 07, 2015 Victoria Falls
Early this morning depart on an elephant back safari and a chance to meet African elephants up close • Interact with this gorgeous animal • Visit a local craft market • Enjoy some free time at the lodge and reflect on your surroundings as you relax while overlooking the wildlife watering hole. (B)

Day 15: Sunday, February 08, 2015 Victoria Falls - Chobe, Botswana
Watch for bushbuck as well as bird life during a nature walk with a local guide • Travel to Chobe, Botswana for an exciting safari cruise • Spot wildlife along the water’s edge • Find hippos swimming along the shores and crocodiles basking in the sun. (B, L, D)

Day 16: Monday, February 09, 2015 Chobe
Today features morning and afternoon game drives in the one-of-a-kind Chobe National Park • View the animals as they drink from the river • This evening enjoy dinner by the river hosted by a chef who will teach you the art of cooking a traditional Braai (barbeque) complete with some local favorites such as game meat. Day 17: Tuesday, February 10, 2015 Chobe - Johannesburg - Tour Ends

  • Maximum Elevation: 7,800 feet.
  • To complete your vacation, we include roundtrip airport-to-hotel transfers when purchasing Explorations airfare with your tour. If you have arranged for your own air, we are pleased to provide you the option of purchasing these transfers. Please note that all transfers will leave at pre-scheduled times.

  • Single accommodations are extremely limited. Triple accommodations are not available.
  • Smaller buses, which may not be lavatory equipped, may be used on this program. In this case, frequent stops are made during travel periods.
  • For passengers transiting via Europe, an additional overnight flight will be required. Day rooms or overnight stays can be arranged for a cost upon request.
  • Each client is responsible for proper documentation and inoculations that may be required and/or recommended to participate on this tour. Please contact your local travel clinic or personal doctor for specific details on the destinations you are travelling to and from.
  • Explorations prides itself on bringing travellers the very best experiences a destination offers. When travelling in Africa you will encounter full days of sightseeing, frequently in warm temperatures. In order to most fully experience the wildlife, you will be travelling by custom built safari vehicle which requires climbing in and out frequently and sometimes travel on bumpy roads. To experience Africa fully, Explorations recommends that all travellers be in reasonably good health and prepare properly. Unfortunately, wheelchairs cannot be accommodated on this trip. In addition, passengers who require assistance walking or who travel with oxygen tanks will not fully enjoy this trip and Explorations strongly recommends a different Explorations tour.
  • Due to tour scheduling, return flights from Johannesburg should not be scheduled prior to 6:00 PM.
  • Malaria pills are recommended when visiting Zimbabwe and Botswana. Consult your doctor 2-3 weeks prior to departure.
  • Important Passport Information: Passports must be valid for at least 30 days beyond the intended period of stay, plus you must have at least 3 blank pages remaining in your passport to allow the entry visa to be issued for South Africa as well as a visa for Zimbabwe. (Two pages must be side by side for South Africa.) Failure to comply with this law will result in denied entry.
  • The internal flights on this program are not included in the land price of your vacation. These flights must be arranged and purchased separately, through Explorations, if you arrange your own air. Internal flights are included with the air portion of your holiday if you purchase air through Explorations.
  • This tour includes moderate physical activity. The itinerary blends some longer days with shorter days and more leisure time. Walking tours, as well as walking slightly longer distances, up stairs or on uneven walking surfaces should be expected.
  • Park fees (approximately 70 CAD) are included in the land price of your tour. Fees are subject to change and are payable at time of final payment.
